The members of the People’s Democratic Party in Anambra State are
scratching their heads in utter confusion as to what to do about the
towering profile of Governor Willie Obiano in recent times.
Feelers from the ad hoc meeting held by the group in Abuja revealed
that in total acknowledgement of Governor Obiano’s construction of four
bridges in less than two years, the group named him “Oji bridge eme
ogo,” which loosely translates to “the Demystifyer of Bridge
Construction.”
According to the source who took active part in the deliberations of
the group, the opposition is overawed by Obiano’s record of building
four bridges in less than two years. “It took over fifteen years to
build the Nkpor Bridge. Successive administrations struggled to build
one bridge in fifteen years. But Obiano built four in two years. How do
you dispute that?” he queried.
Reasoning that Obiano has shown Ndi Anambra that their dream of
accelerated development was realisable, the source further revealed that
PDP chieftains and financiers were unsure of what to say against a man
who had climbed over the terrible state of the economy to prove to the
people that progress is possible in the midst of adversity.
The source finally submitted that it was clear that the overwhelming
endorsement garnered by the Governor on the back of his recent
emergence as The Sun Governor of the Year has put him beyond the reach
of any candidate the opposition may contemplate to put up in the
approaching election.
Indeed, if the records are any admissible yardstick for measuring
performance in a political office, Governor Obiano has firmly
established himself as a man for all seasons.
He ended the over 40-year old scourge of violent robbery and
kidnapping in Onitsha and environs and turned Anambra into Nigeria’s
hottest investment destination, attracting $3.2bn investments in less
than two years.
He also transformed Awka into Nigeria’s fastest emerging metropolis
and ignited an Agro-revolution that has turned Anambra into an exporter
of farm produce in less than two years.
Obiano remains the only governor to have increased salaries when his
peers are scrounging for bail outs and one of the four governors that
still pay salaries as and when due.
This is why Obiano is a nightmare to the opposition!
