More awards and accolades trail the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano barely two years in office following his widely acknowledged stellar performance in office, with the latest coming from the Justice Development and Peace Caritas of the Catholic Diocese of Awka,. The governor was conferred with The Grand Pillar of JDPC Award, while his wife Ebelechukwu received Mother of Charity Award. The awards were conferred on them by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor during the inauguration of 2016 JDPC Week at St Patricks’ Cathedral, Awka, Anambra State.
Bestowing the Award, Bishop Ezeokafor said that the JDPC considered governor Obiano worthy owing to the numerous development strides of his administration is taking to better the lots of Ndi Anambra. On the other hand, the Bishop said that Mrs. Obiano is recognized for her contributions to improving the lives of the poorest of the poor in the state through well-known charitable programmes.
Earlier in his Homily, Bishop Ezeokafor who read from the Gospel of St. Luke reviewed the account of the Prodigal son who despite his disobedience got a reprieve from the father. He urged Christians to avail themselves of the second chance provided for them through Christ to return to God and to always show mercy and pity for others.
In his appreciation of the Awards, the Governor Obiano thanked the JDPC for the honour done to him and his wife. According to Obiano,” I want to thank the Church for considering my wife and I worthy of the Awards. I have received several awards from the Church but I cherish this one because it is very important and an affirmation that we are doing the right thing and I assure you that we will continue to do the right things.”
Over twenty stakeholders equally received merit awards on the occasion including the former national Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh who received the Patron of JDPC Award.
