Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, yesterday
splashed half a million to St Charles Obiofia Community Primary School,
Nnewichi-Nnewi, Anambra state to complete its building project.
The
occasion was the school’s annual inter-house sports competition and fund
raising ceremony towards completing the school building and other
projects.
Chief Ubah who was represented on the occasion by the
chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nnewi North, Engr.
Maduka Okoye, assured the school of his continued support for education,
which he described as the key to success.
He pointed out that
education may be expensive but that the cost of ignorance is higher
noting that with solid educational background, there is opportunity to
attain higher heights.
He also reminded the parents and the pupils of the school that education remains a life-long investment.
In
her welcome address, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Benedette
Ugogor, disclosed that under her watch, the school has recorded some
landmark achievements which she attributed to the collective efforts of
all the teaching and non-teaching staff.
She however listed some
other challenges, including the decked uncompleted building which leaks
from the concrete roof during the rains, and the need for more
classrooms for in¬creasing population of pupils.
Mrs Ugogor noted
that all the highlighted problems would be solved by the early
completion of the school building most especially as the rainy season is
gradually setting in.
The Head Teacher thanked the eminent and public spirited individuals who have contributed to the school in the past.
Most
Rev Hillary Okeke of the Nnewi Diocese of Nnewi Catholic Diocese which
owns the school, thanked Chief Ubah for his donation to the school and
other projects of the church.
